For over 40 years, Tower of Power has been creating their own kind of music – what they call “Urban Soul.” With a rhythm section that lays down a groove like no other, this ten-piece outfit is, as the Hollywood Reporter proclaimed, “tighter than a clenched fist.” Decades of sold out shows and an outstanding lead vocalist have proven Tower of Power can answer the question: “What is Hip?” “When It comes to straight-up R&B, no band kicks it like Tower Of Power” – Ray Charles

Popular comedian and actor Sinbad entertains audiences with his unique and hilarious ‘hit ‘em in the face’ style of comedy. Sinbad never tells jokes–”I don’t know any,” he admits–but rather stalks the stage, telling real-life stories. He doesn’t deliver payoff lines; he slam-dunks them. His comedy is large, physical, and impetuous. He pokes holes in our lifestyles, and his stories mirror our foibles. He doesn’t write his material; he relives it as he remembers it. Sinbad has appeared on the FX Television series “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Also, his long awaited stand-up special aired on Comedy Central this past February and most recently, Sinbad was seen in the third season of NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice.

An adventure in innovation and exploration, Spyro Gyra’s unique mix of soul, jazz and world beat influences, along with their consummate musicianship, creates one of instrumental music’s most exhilarating and freewheeling sounds. With nine Grammy nominations and over thirteen million albums sold, they have been praised as skilled instrumentalists as well as masters of live performances which average nearly 100 per year. Their latest, Down the Wire, hailed as one of their best CDs in years, is a free flowing fusion of music and creativity similar to the elements that were there when they first created Morning Dance.

Their infectiously danceable, funky soul based on the sounds of Memphis, Motown and Philadelphia have made Average White Band (AWB) one of the best selling soul and funk bands in the history of music. The Scottish group stormed onto the US charts in 1974 with the million selling #1 album, Average White Band (The White Album), including the #1 single ‘Pick Up the Pieces’ – that single remains one of the most widely recognized funk grooves today, frequently covered by hip-hop artists and featured on television. The group’s follow-up album Cut the Cake proved just as successful, with the title track hitting #1, while their 1975 album, Person to Person, remains among the best selling live funk albums ever. With multiple Grammy wins and Platinum selling hits, AWB continues to record and tour, laying down their hip R&B grooves on sellout audiences worldwide.

Arturo Sandoval is fluent in at least four musical languages. He can burn through an Afro-Cuban groove, tear up a bebop tune, soar over a Mozart concerto and soothe you with a luscious ballad; all with equal power and grace. As one of the world’s most acknowledged guardians of jazz trumpet, he has earned twelve GRAMMY nominations, won three GRAMMYs, six Billboard Awards and was named “The Most Musical Man Alive” by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences.
Paula Poundstone continues to be one of the foremost comics working today. Her ability to create humor on the spot is legendary; she is masterful at improvising with the crowd through her casual air, impeccable timing and razor-sharp wit. She is a popular panelist on NPR’s “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me”, has published her first book, “There’s Nothing In This Book That I Meant To Say” and released her first comedy CD: “HEART JOKES: Paula Tells Them In Maine in 2009″. An Emmy Award winner, she is also the first woman to receive the Cable ACE for Best Standup Comedy Special. As one critic stated: “Poundstone has a rare talent. A refreshing anti-celebrity: warm, gracious, genuine. If you like intelligent, philosophical comedy you’ll love Paula Poundstone.”

“The Godfather of the British Blues”, John Mayall’s impressive career spans over fifty years. Mayall first gained notoriety during the late ’60s as founder of John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, at the same time he discovered Eric Clapton. Clapton and Mayall went on to release a hit album for the Bluesbreakers. Mayall became as well known for discovering new talent (John McVie and Mick Fleetwood who became Fleetwood Mac and Mick Taylor who joined the Rolling Stones, among others) as for his hard-hitting interpretations of the fierce Chicago-style blues he’d grown up listening to. Throughout the eighties and nineties, John’s popularity surged with a succession of dynamic albums such as Behind The Iron Curtain, Chicago Line, A Sense of Place, and the Grammy-nominated Wake Up Call. His 2003, 70th Birthday concert DVD was called “one of the finest nights of blues this millennium.” Mayall was featured in the BBC documentary ‘The Godfather of British Blues’ and to coincide with the release of ‘Road Dogs’ in 2005, Mayall was awarded an OBE by The Queen’s Honours list. In the Spring of 2007, John Mayall released his critically-acclaimed 56th album: ‘In The Palace Of The King. His latest is his 2010 Live DVD. Mayall, at 70-years-old, shows no indication of slowing down. Only plans to keep dishing the blues for years to come.

Since galvanizing the instrumental music world with its unique East meets West approach in the late 70s, Hiroshima has always kept its eye on a distinctive One World philosophy which seamlessly melds Asian and North American music to reflect both cultural and spiritual connections. The group was the first to blend jazz, pop, and rock with traditional Japanese folk music and instruments – the resulting sound was a pioneering voice in the world music movement of the late 20th century. While Hiroshima has sold more than three million records, the group has done something even more important in the process – introduced a variety of traditional Asian instruments to a global audience, and integrated them into a new music and art form. The Japanese koto, a zither-like,13-stringed instrument, shakuhachi, a five holed bamboo flute, and the powerful taiko (which literally means “drum”), combine with instruments from the Western Hemisphere to create Hiroshima’s unique musical palette.

The name Hot Tuna invokes as many different moods and reactions as there are Hot Tuna fans — millions of them. To some, Hot Tuna is a reminder of some wild and happy times. To others, that name will forever be linked to their own discovery of the power and depth of American blues and roots music. From their days playing together as teenagers to their current acoustic and electric blues, probably no one has more consistently led American music for the last 50 years than Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady – founders of Jefferson Airplane who later formed the legendary Hot Tuna. Forty years and several incarnations of the Jefferson Airplane later, Hot Tuna are still going strong. Celebrating their first studio album in 20 years, Steady As She Goes, proves that Hot Tuna remains one of the most innovative bands in American music. Steady As She Goes has been called ‘an absolute masterpiece’.

It can be easily argued that Poco first created the combination of vocal harmonies, country instruments and rock and roll rhythms that became known as country rock. Founded in 1968 Poco’s first album Pickin Up The Pieces was the only debut album to ever receive a perfect rating from Rolling Stone. With 24 original albums and 26 ‘Best Of’ and anthology collection, Poco is one of the most prolific bands in rock history with hits including ‘Crazy Love’, ‘Keep on Tryin’, ‘Call it Love’, ‘Good Feelin’ to Know’ and ‘Heart of the Night’. In the last decade the band has released Running Horse, The Wildwood Sessions, Bareback at Big Sky and Keeping the Legend Alive and still tours playing to crowds of Poconuts everywhere.

The Texas Tenors take their music seriously, but never themselves. Weaving effortlessly from John Denver to Puccini to “West Side Story,” this trio takes their audience on a musical ride from West Virginia to Italy to New York City, pausing between genres long enough only to tell stories and smile for pictures. You’ve seen them on “America’s Got Talent,” now come hear them live with the Austin Symphony Orchestra.

Renowned bassist Stanley Clarke’s is best known for his ferocious dexterity and complete musicality on both the acoustic and electric bass. His artistry has spanned classical, jazz, R&B and pop idioms. Stanley single-handedly started the 1970s “bass revolution,” with the release of his singles “Lopsy Lu” and “School Days” – now a bona fide bass anthem. Clarke became the first bassist in history to headline tours and have his albums certified gold – being called a ‘legend’ by the time he was 25 years old. In addition to his solo career, Clarke’s collaborations include teaming with George Duke on a Top 20 hit “Sweet Baby”, as well as recording and touring with Jeff Beck, Ronnie Wood & Keith Richards, Animal Logic with Stewart Copeland and The “Superband” with Larry Carlton, Billy Cobham, Najee, and Deron Johnson. Clarke has won literally every major award available to a bass player: Grammys, Emmys, Gold and Platinum records and was named Rolling Stone’s very first Jazzman of the Year. His new recording, The Stanley Clarke Band, was released June 2010 and in 2011 he was honored with the prestigious Miles Davis Award at the Montreal Jazz Festival.
